Our company is on the record; you hold the rights that matter in practice. This page sets out both sides, including the limits, in plain words.

**Quick answer — Is a nominee domain really mine?**

Beneficial ownership of a nominee domain means the domain is held in a company's name, but you use and control it. At **NomineeName**, as of October 2026, DomaineGoat LLC is the registrant and our terms make you the beneficial owner. You manage DNS and renewals, get the transfer code free, from your account, at any time, and pay no exit fee.

## Your position in short

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Legal holder (registrant of record) | DomaineGoat LLC, Panama |
| Beneficial owner | You, under a written agreement in the [terms](https://nomineename.com/legal/terms/) |
| Who decides DNS, nameservers, redirects | You, from your account |
| Transfer code | free, from your account, at any time |
| Domain in your own name | free, on request to support from your verified email address, where the registry accepts you |
| Exit fee | None |
| Trademark complaint (UDRP) | Filed against our company; you are told the same business day the dispute provider contacts us |
| ICANN rule on licensed domains | RAA 2013, section 3.7.7.3 |

## What is the difference between the registrant and the beneficial owner?

The registrant is the name on the record. The beneficial owner is the person the domain is held for. In a nominee registration they are two different parties, linked by a contract.

| Question | Registrant of record (DomaineGoat LLC) | Beneficial owner (you) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Named in the registrant record, WHOIS and RDAP? | Yes | No |
| Chooses DNS records and nameservers? | No | Yes |
| Decides on renewal? | No | Yes, renewals are paid from your balance |
| Can move the domain to another registrar? | Acts on your request | Yes, with the transfer code |
| Receives a UDRP complaint? | Yes, as named respondent | Informed the same business day the dispute provider contacts us, and can defend |
| Answers a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order? | Yes | Told when the law allows, with Domain protection |

## What does the written agreement give you?

Our [terms](https://nomineename.com/legal/terms/) contain a beneficial owner clause. It gives you these rights for every domain in your account:

- **Use and control**: DNS, nameservers, redirects and renewal decisions are yours.
- **Portability**: the transfer code free, from your account, at any time, with no exit fee on our side.
- **Hand-back**: the domain registered in your own name free, on request to support from your verified email address, on extensions whose registry accepts you as holder.
- **Notice**: you hear from us when a trademark dispute is filed, and, with [Domain protection](https://nomineename.com/domain-protection/), when a complaint arrives and the law allows notice.

The clause binds DomaineGoat LLC. Read it in full before you buy: the terms prevail over any summary, including this one.

## How do you take the domain back?

There are two routes. Both are free on our side.

1. **Transfer it to another registrar** — Get the transfer code from your account and start the transfer at the new registrar. The new registrar then lists whoever you name as holder. Its own transfer price applies.
2. **Ask for it in your own name, here** — Ask support by email from your verified address. We file you as registrant where the registry accepts you. The steps are in take your domain back in your name.

## What does ICANN say about a registrant who holds a domain for someone else?

It stays responsible. Section 3.7.7.3 of ICANN's 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement covers a registrant that licenses use of a domain to a third party.

That registrant remains the Registered Name Holder. It accepts liability for harm caused by wrongful use of the domain. The only way out is to disclose the licensee's contact details within 7 days to a party that gives reasonable evidence of actionable harm.

Our policy is narrower: we release customer data only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. As a result, DomaineGoat LLC accepts that liability itself. We do not promise anything beyond this. See the [disclosure policy](https://nomineename.com/disclosure-policy/).

## Where does beneficial ownership stop?

Your rights come from a contract, so they have edges. Know them before you rely on them:

- **Rules of use**: a breach of the [acceptable use policy](https://nomineename.com/acceptable-use-policy/), such as phishing or malware, leads to suspension.
- **Registry decisions**: a registry deals with its registrant. It can apply its own policies to the domain.
- **Court decisions**: a Panamanian court order is applied.
- **UDRP outcomes**: the panel's decision is applied, as for any registrant.
- **Your email**: it is how we confirm requests. Keep it working, or you may lose the easy path to your rights.

This is not legal advice. For a valuable domain, ask a lawyer to read the terms with you.

## Beneficial ownership: questions

### Can NomineeName sell or keep my domain?

No. Our terms make you the beneficial owner, and the company holds the domain on your behalf. We act on the domain at your request. The other cases are the ones on this page: a court decision, a UDRP decision, or a strict abuse exception.

### How do I prove that a nominee domain is mine?

The domain sits in your account, tied to your verified email. That account is your proof towards us. A third party, such as a buyer, may want more. Then the cleanest route is to take the domain back in your own name or transfer it to the buyer.

### Can I sell a nominee domain?

Yes. Give the buyer the transfer code so they can move it to their registrar. Or ask us to register it in the buyer's name, where the registry accepts them. No exit fee applies on our side.

### Who is liable if the domain is misused?

Under ICANN's RAA section 3.7.7.3, the registrant that licenses a domain accepts liability unless it discloses the licensee within 7 days. Since we do not disclose on a third party's evidence alone, DomaineGoat LLC carries that liability. You remain liable under the laws that apply to you. This is not legal advice.

### What happens to my domain if NomineeName stops operating?

Our [terms](https://nomineename.com/legal/terms/) (section 11) say we tell you by email in advance, and the transfer code and the free hand-back to your own name stay available during that notice period. The beneficial-owner agreement cannot be reduced for a period you have paid. If our registrar partner lost its ICANN accreditation, ICANN rules move its domains to another accredited registrar, using the registration data kept in escrow; DomaineGoat LLC would stay the registrant of record and your rights would not change.

### Can I put the domain in my name for some extensions only?

Yes, per domain. The hand-back works where the registry accepts you as holder. For .us, .eu or .ca, eligibility rules apply to you, and we do not sell those extensions anyway ([extensions we cannot hold](https://nomineename.com/extensions-we-cannot-hold/)).

### Does Domain protection change who owns the domain?

No. Ownership is the same with or without it. [Domain protection](https://nomineename.com/domain-protection/) costs $29 per year per domain. It adds a default transfer lock, confirmation of changes from your account, minimal data, and a person who reads every complaint before any action.
