Your own name, your own company, or ours: who ends up as the legal holder, what the registry files, and what each choice costs you in paperwork.

**Quick answer — How do I register a domain in a company name?**

To register a domain in a company name, you can use a company you own or one that acts as nominee. With **NomineeName**, as of October 2026, DomaineGoat LLC (Panama) is the registrant of record on every domain at no extra cost. A .com costs $12.99/year. You need no company, no ID and no KYC.

## Key facts

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Company on the record | DomaineGoat LLC, incorporated in Panama |
| Company you must form | None |
| Rule behind it | ICANN Registration Data Policy (in force since 21 August 2025): a filled Organization field makes that organisation the registrant |
| Your status | Beneficial owner, by contract |
| Cost of the company name | Included in the extension price |
| .com price | $12.99/year |
| Switch to your own name later | free, on request to support from your verified email address |

## Which name should go on the registration?

Three common choices, side by side. The last row is the service this site sells.

| Registrant | Who is the legal holder | What the registry files | What you must do |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Your personal name | You | Your name, address, phone and email (none at the thin .com and .net registries, where the registrar keeps them) | Nothing more; your details sit in the registrant record, even if the public record redacts them |
| A company you own | Your company | Your company's name and address, plus a contact | Form and maintain the company; its own records may list you as director or owner |
| NomineeName (DomaineGoat LLC) | Our company, with you as beneficial owner | The company's details only | Verify one email and pay in crypto |

## What happens when you fill in the Organization field?

The organisation becomes the registrant. Under ICANN's Registration Data Policy, in force since 21 August 2025, a filled Organization field names the legal holder of the domain.

This catches people out. If you type your employer, your client or a friend's company, that organisation can claim the domain. If you leave the field empty, you are the holder as a private person.

With NomineeName you do not fill in this field at all. The registrar files DomaineGoat LLC as the organisation, and our [terms](https://nomineename.com/legal/terms/) state that you are the beneficial owner.

## Does registering through your own company keep your name private?

Not always. A company of your own moves the domain to the company's name, but the company itself leaves traces.

- **Company registers**: many countries publish directors, shareholders or beneficial owners. Your name may be one search away from the company name.
- **Address**: the registry needs a postal address for the company. For a small company, that is often a home or a paid office.
- **Upkeep**: annual filings, a registered agent, bank fees. That is a lot of overhead to hold one domain.

A nominee removes these steps. The company on the record already exists, and it is not linked to you in any public register.

## When is your own company the better choice?

When the company itself must hold the title. Some situations call for it:

- **Investors or buyers** want to see the domain on the company's balance sheet before a deal.
- **Trademark filings** often go smoother when the domain and the mark share the same holder.
- **Residence rules**: an EU company can hold .eu or .fr. Our company cannot, so we do not sell them ([extensions we cannot hold](https://nomineename.com/extensions-we-cannot-hold/)).

You can also start with us and move later. Ask for the domain in your company's name free, on request to support from your verified email address, where the registry accepts it as holder. The steps are in [take your domain back in your name](https://nomineename.com/guides/take-your-domain-back-in-your-name/).

## What does the record show when our company is the registrant?

The registrant organisation reads DomaineGoat LLC and the country reads Panama. Other contact fields either show the company's details or are redacted by the registry, depending on the extension.

The registrar, the creation and expiry dates, the nameservers and the status codes are public for every domain, ours included. Nothing in that record points to you. To see it for yourself, follow [check who the registrant is](https://nomineename.com/guides/check-who-the-registrant-is/).

## Does it cost more to use a company name?

No. The company name is part of the base service. Prices are the same as on the grid: $12.99/year for a .com, $54.99/year for a .io, $10.99/year for a .de. See [pricing](https://nomineename.com/pricing/) for all 129 extensions.

## Company name registration: questions

### Can I register a domain in a company name without owning a company?

Yes, by using a nominee. The nominee's company is the registrant and you are the beneficial owner by contract. At NomineeName that company is DomaineGoat LLC, and it costs nothing on top of the domain price. No incorporation, no annual filings.

### Can I put my own company's name on the domain instead of yours?

Not as the registrant of record while the domain is with us: every domain we hold is in our company's name. You can ask for the domain to be moved to your company free, on request to support from your verified email address, where the registry accepts your company as holder.

### Is my name stored anywhere with the registry?

No. Registries that keep contact data receive the company's name, address and phone; the .com and .net registries receive no contact data at all. We do not collect your name, so there is nothing of yours to send. We keep only one verified email per domain, which never leaves our systems for the registry.

### What if I typed my employer in the Organization field at another registrar?

Then the employer is the legal holder of that domain under ICANN's Registration Data Policy. Correct it at that registrar while you can. Moving the domain to us also changes the holder, because the transfer files our company as registrant.

### Will the company name hurt my site with customers?

Most visitors never look at registration data. Those who do will see a registrant company in Panama, as with many privacy and proxy services. Your site, your email and your brand stay the same.

### Can a business with several domains use one company name for all?

Yes. Every domain in your account has DomaineGoat LLC as registrant, so a portfolio looks uniform in the records. See the [domain portfolio](https://nomineename.com/use-cases/domain-portfolio/) use case.
