What does "nominee" mean for a domain name?

A nominee is a person or company that holds an asset in its own name on behalf of someone else. Lawyers use the word for shares, land and bank accounts. For a domain, the asset is the registration, and the name on it is the registrant of record.

In a nominee registration, that registrant is not you. It is our company. You are the beneficial owner: the person who uses the domain, decides what it points to and can ask for it back. The link between the two is a contract, written in our terms.

This is different from WHOIS privacy. A privacy service hides your details on the public record, but you stay the registrant: the registrar, and the registry when it keeps contact data, still file your name. The full difference is on nominee vs WHOIS privacy.

What is included with every nominee domain?

These six points come with every domain we sell, whatever the extension. None of them is an add-on.

Our company on the record

DomaineGoat LLC is the registrant in the registrant record, in WHOIS and in RDAP.

Your details stay out of the registry

Your name, address and phone are never sent to the registry. We do not collect them.

Full control

DNS, nameservers, redirects and renewals are managed from your account.

Transfer code on demand

The auth code is free, from your account, at any time.

Back in your own name

free, on request to support from your verified email address, where the registry accepts you as holder.

No exit fee

Leaving costs nothing on our side. The new registrar charges its own transfer price.

Who uses nominee domain registration?

People and teams who want a working domain without putting a personal name in a registry file. Typical cases:

  • A startup before its launch, so no founder's name is tied to the product early (use case).
  • A domain portfolio, held under one registrant instead of a personal name (use case).
  • A personal site or blog whose owner does not want a home address in any registry (use case).
  • A .de, .uk, .nl or .ch domain, where the registry asks for a postal address. It gets ours.

The service is for lawful projects. Our acceptable use policy lists what is not allowed.

How many extensions does NomineeName hold in its name?

129, each with one price that already includes the nominee registration. The most requested ones are below; the full list has filters by category. Registries that demand a local tie or an ID check, such as .us, .eu, .fr or .ca, are left out: see extensions we cannot hold.

What are the limits of a nominee registration?

A nominee registration keeps your name out of the registry. It does not put a domain above the law. These limits apply to every customer:

  • Panamanian orders: we release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case.
  • Strict exceptions: phishing, malware, botnets and fraud that takes money from victims are acted on within 24 hours of a well-documented report, child sexual abuse material immediately. See the abuse policy.
  • Trademark disputes: the UDRP applies, and the complaint names our company. We tell you the same business day the dispute provider contacts us. See UDRP and nominee domains.
  • Registry and registrar copies: their registration data names the company, not you.

A complaint about copyright, defamation, politics or competition is not enough on its own. It needs a decision from a Panamanian court.

NomineeName is a nominee domain registration service from Panama: every domain is registered in the name of DomaineGoat LLC by default, so the registration record and WHOIS show the company, never you — no ID, no KYC, paid in crypto. The service is operated by DomaineGoat LLC, incorporated in Panama, which is not an ICANN-accredited registrar. Domains are registered through our ICANN-accredited registrar partner, shown in the RDAP record.

Nominee domain registration: questions

Yes. ICANN's 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement expects that a registrant may license a domain to someone else. Section 3.7.7.3 sets the duties that come with it. The registrant then answers for the domain's use. Laws differ by country, so check your own situation. This is not legal advice.

Who owns a domain registered by a nominee?

On paper, the registrant of record: our company. Under our terms, you are the beneficial owner, with control of the domain and the right to take it back. The beneficial ownership page explains what that agreement gives you and where it stops.

How much does the nominee registration cost?

Nothing on top of the extension price. A .com is $12.99/year with our company as registrant, the same to renew and to transfer. The only paid extra is Domain protection, at $29 per year per domain. All prices: pricing.

Can I see who the registrant is after I buy?

Yes. Run an RDAP lookup on lookup.icann.org or a similar tool. The registrant field shows DomaineGoat LLC. Our guide check who the registrant is shows where to look and what each field means.

What happens if someone complains about my domain?

It depends on the complaint. Phishing, malware, botnets and fraud are acted on within 24 hours of a well-documented report. Other complaints, such as copyright or defamation, need a decision that binds us, from a Panamanian court. Only with Domain protection does a person read each complaint before any action, with notice to you when the law allows.
