Njalla alternative: the same model, with ownership in writing

Njalla made one idea popular: the service, not you, sits in the registry as the holder. NomineeName works the same way, from Panama. It also writes down what Njalla's pages leave open: how you get the domain back, and when your data can be released.

Quick answer

Which service can replace Njalla?

The NomineeName Njalla alternative keeps Njalla's model: the service's company, here DomaineGoat LLC in Panama, is the registrant of record. It adds a written hand-back to your own name and a written disclosure rule tied to Panamanian legal orders. A .com is $12.99 against Njalla's €15 (njal.la/pricing, 8 October 2026). Njalla accepts Monero; NomineeName does not.

Facts checked on ; each competitor price carries its own date

Njalla charges a flat yearly price per extension, in euros (njal.la/pricing, checked 8 October 2026); we do not convert it. NomineeName charges the same to register, renew and transfer.

Who owns a domain registered with Njalla?

Njalla does, on paper. Its terms, as quoted on a privacy forum in 2023, register domains in Njalla's name unless the customer asks otherwise. You use the domain; the company holds it.

That is the strength of the model, and its open question. Commenters on a Lemmy forum describe it bluntly: you do not own the domain. Njalla's domains were long held through Sarek Oy, a Finnish registrar linked to founder Peter Sunde, per TorrentFreak. TorrentFreak also reported that ICANN refused Sunde an accreditation because of his past.

NomineeName uses the same holder model, with the customer's side written down. You are the beneficial owner under our terms. See beneficial ownership for what that covers.

Why did the company behind Njalla change in 2024?

The company behind Njalla moved. A blog post of 14 September 2025 reports that Njalla operates as njalla.srl in Costa Rica since late 2024. Before that, it was 1337 Services in Nevis. The author says the change was not announced to customers.

In May 2021, onlinedomain.com described Njalla as a Tucows reseller at the time. Changes of company or registrar do not end a service. They do change which law and which contract apply to your domain, so they are worth checking.

Why choose NomineeName over Njalla?

NomineeName is a nominee domain registration service from Panama: every domain is registered in the name of DomaineGoat LLC by default, so the registration record and WHOIS show the company, never you — no ID, no KYC, paid in crypto.

  • A written exit. The transfer code is free, from your account, at any time. Putting the domain in your own name is free, on request to support from your verified email address. This works where the registry accepts you as holder.
  • A written disclosure rule. Data goes out only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. See the disclosure policy.
  • Strict, public exceptions. Phishing, malware, botnets and fraud that takes money from victims are acted on within 24 hours of a well-documented report, child sexual abuse material immediately. See the abuse policy.
  • Lower price on common extensions. .com, .net, .xyz and .co cost less here than at Njalla, per the table above.

Where does Njalla do better than NomineeName?

Njalla is the better pick in three cases.

  • You pay in Monero. Njalla accepts XMR. NomineeName accepts BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, not Monero.
  • You register .io or .ai. Njalla's €45 for .io and €75 for .ai are below our $54.99 and $88.99.
  • You value a long record. Njalla has run since 2017. NomineeName publishes its first transparency report in January 2027.

How do I move a domain from Njalla to NomineeName?

  1. Ask Njalla for the transfer code

Request the auth (EPP) code and make sure the domain is unlocked.

  2. Top up in crypto

Send the exact amount on the exact network; it is credited once the network confirms it.

  3. Start the transfer

Enter the domain and the code. The domain arrives registered in the name of DomaineGoat LLC.

Njalla alternative: FAQ

Is NomineeName the same as Njalla?

The model is the same: the service's company is the registrant of record, and you use the domain. The details differ. NomineeName is operated by DomaineGoat LLC in Panama; Njalla by njalla.srl in Costa Rica. NomineeName writes your hand-back and its disclosure rule into its terms. Njalla accepts Monero, which NomineeName does not. Prices differ by extension: see the table above.

Is Njalla cheaper than NomineeName?

On .com, no: Njalla charges €15 a year (njal.la/pricing, 8 October 2026), and NomineeName $12.99. On .io and .ai, yes: Njalla's €45 and €75 are below our $54.99 and $88.99. NomineeName charges the same price to register, renew and transfer. Compare every extension on our pricing page.

Can I get my domain back in my own name?

At NomineeName, yes: free, on request to support from your verified email address, on extensions whose registry accepts you as holder. You can also leave with the transfer code, free, from your account, at any time, with no exit fee. We found no equivalent written right on the Njalla pages and sources we checked on 19 October 2026.

Who sees my details at NomineeName?

Only NomineeName, and only one verified email per domain. The registrant record, WHOIS and RDAP show DomaineGoat LLC. We release customer data only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case.

Why does NomineeName not accept Monero?

Our payment system supports BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, sent on the exact network shown at checkout. Monero is not among them today. If XMR is a must for you, Njalla, OrangeWebsite and 1984 Hosting list it on their own pages, as of 8 October 2026. See pay with crypto.

What if someone files a trademark complaint?

Trademark complaints follow the UDRP, as ICANN requires. The complaint names DomaineGoat LLC as registrant. We tell you the same business day the dispute provider contacts us, you can defend the case, and the panel's decision is applied. Panels often name both the service and the revealed beneficial owner in the decision. See UDRP and nominee domains.
