Quick answer

What are the alternatives to private domain registrars?

Private domain registrar alternatives fall into two groups. Njalla and NomineeName hold the domain in their own company's name. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Porkbun and Epik show a privacy name over a registration that stays yours. NomineeName registers every domain for DomaineGoat LLC at no extra cost, .com $12.99, as of 19 October 2026.

How do I choose a private registrar alternative?

Start with the record you want the registry to hold. Then look at price and payment.

  1. Is a privacy name in public WHOIS enough? Then a mainstream registrar costs less. Free privacy at Porkbun, Namecheap or NameSilo hides your details from the public.
  2. Do you want your name out of the registry's own records? Then you need a service that is the registrant of record: Njalla or NomineeName.
  3. Must you pay in Monero? Njalla and OrangeWebsite take it; NomineeName does not.
  4. Do you need a written rule on takedowns and disclosure? NomineeName publishes one. Data goes out only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. A copyright, defamation, political or competitor complaint alone does not lead to a takedown.

Our registrant-of-record index traces every privacy name to its company and country.

What does NomineeName do differently?

NomineeName is a nominee domain registration service from Panama: every domain is registered in the name of DomaineGoat LLC by default, so the registration record and WHOIS show the company, never you — no ID, no KYC, paid in crypto.

  • Ownership in writing. You are the beneficial owner under our terms. You control DNS, nameservers and renewals.
  • A way out. The transfer code is free, from your account, at any time. The domain goes into your own name free, on request to support from your verified email address, where the registry accepts you.
  • Address-heavy extensions. The .de, .uk, .nl and .ch registries ask for a holder's name and postal address. They receive the company's.
  • Option. Domain protection adds a transfer lock on by default, minimal data and a person who reads every complaint before any action, +$29/year per domain.

Prices for all 129 extensions are on the pricing page.

When is switching not worth it?

Stay where you are if the public WHOIS page is your only concern. Free privacy from a mainstream registrar already hides your name, address and phone from it. Moving also costs a year of renewal at the new provider, as most transfers do. And if you pay only in Monero, NomineeName cannot take your payment. We would rather you know this before you move.

How do I move a domain to NomineeName?

  1. Unlock and get the code

At your current provider, turn off the transfer lock and copy the transfer (EPP) code.

  2. Top up in crypto

Send the exact amount on the exact network from $25. It is matched by its exact amount and credited once the network confirms it.

  3. Start the transfer

Enter the domain and the code in your account. One verified email per domain is the only contact we ask for.

  4. Registered in our name

Once the transfer completes, DomaineGoat LLC is the registrant of record and you manage the domain from your account.

Private registrar alternatives: FAQ

What is the difference between a privacy name and a nominee holder?

A privacy name, such as Domains By Proxy or Withheld for Privacy, replaces your details in public WHOIS while you stay the legal holder. A nominee holder, such as NomineeName or Njalla, is the legal holder itself. With NomineeName, the registry receives DomaineGoat LLC's details, and you are the beneficial owner under a written agreement.

Is NomineeName more expensive than free WHOIS privacy?

On some extensions, yes. Porkbun lists .com at $11.08 with free privacy (8 October 2026), less than NomineeName's $12.99. The NomineeName price includes registration in the company's name, which mainstream registrars do not offer. Our .com costs the same to register, renew and transfer.

Can I keep my domain at NomineeName and take it back later?

Yes. You can move it out with the transfer code, free, from your account, at any time, with no exit fee. Or you can have the domain put in your own name where the registry accepts you as holder. That is free, on request to support from your verified email address. Both rights are written in our terms, and neither costs an exit fee.

Which providers on this page accept crypto?

Njalla and OrangeWebsite accept Bitcoin and Monero, among others, as of 8 October 2026. Namecheap accepts Bitcoin through BTCPay and BitPay by topping up a balance. Porkbun's support page names USDC through Coinbase Business. NomineeName takes crypto only: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, from a prepaid balance with a minimum top-up of $25.

Does NomineeName ask for an ID document?

No. No ID, no KYC — only a verified email, kept private. ICANN rules require a working contact, so we verify one email per domain within 15 days. It is never published and never sent to the registry. Payment is in crypto, so no card details are needed either. See domain registration without ID.
