Quick answer

Can I register a .dev domain in your company's name?

Yes: you can register a .dev domain in our name at NomineeName. The registrant is DomaineGoat LLC, incorporated in Panama, so the registrant record and WHOIS/RDAP show the company, never you. As of October 2026, .dev costs $14.99/year, nominee registration included. No ID, no KYC — only a verified email, kept private — and you pay in crypto.

Who registers .dev in a company's name?

A .dev is the extension of developers: documentation, dev tools, open-source libraries and personal tech blogs. Open-source maintainers publish their code under a handle and often do not want a home address linked to it. In our name, the .dev registry record shows our company, and the repository keeps your handle.

What the .dev registry receives, what WHOIS shows, what we keep

WhoWhat they get for your .dev domain
Google Registry (Charleston Road Registry Inc.)DomaineGoat LLC as holder, with the company's address. Nothing about you.
Public WHOIS / RDAPThe company as registrant, or fields the registry redacts. Never your name.
NomineeNameYour verified email and your orders. The email never goes to the registry.
YouBeneficial owner: DNS, renewals and the transfer code (free, from your account, at any time).

What does the .dev registry ask of a holder?

Google Registry (Charleston Road Registry Inc.) runs .dev under an ICANN contract. Like .app and .page, it has no registrant restriction. What it does have is a technical rule: the whole extension is on the HSTS preload list. The registry receives our company's details as holder. The ICANN 60-day lock applies after a registration or a transfer.

What should you check before registering .dev?

  • HTTPS only: browsers open .dev sites over HTTPS only. Local development tools that serve plain HTTP on a .dev name will not load.
  • Docs sites: static hosts issue certificates once the DNS points to them.
  • Package registries: some verify a domain through a DNS TXT record, which you add from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a .dev name for local development?

Only with HTTPS. Since .dev is preloaded as HTTPS-only, a browser will not open http:// on any .dev name. Use a real certificate, or a reserved name such as .test for local work. This applies at every registrar.

Will a .dev in your name show up on my GitHub profile?

Only what you publish. GitHub and package registries verify the domain through DNS records, which you control. The registry record names our company. Your handle appears where you choose to put it, not in RDAP.

Can I move a new .dev to another registrar right away?

Not for 60 days. ICANN's transfer policy blocks a transfer to another registrar for 60 days after a registration or a transfer. You can still change DNS at any time. After that period, the transfer code is free from your account.

Who owns a .dev domain held in your name?

DomaineGoat LLC is the registrant of record and you are the beneficial owner, under a written agreement in our terms. Your transfer code: free, from your account, at any time. The hand-back of the .dev name to you is free, on request to support from your verified email address. It works where the registry accepts you as holder.

Can a complaint take my .dev domain down?

Not on its own: copyright, defamation, political or competitor complaints need a decision from a Panamanian court. The strict exceptions have fixed delays: phishing, malware, botnets and fraud that takes money from victims within 24 hours of a well-documented report, child sexual abuse material immediately. See the abuse policy.
